Public art
Public art in Region Stockholm can be found in our healthcare facilities and throughout the public transport system.

Public art in Region Stockholm enriches everyday life across our region — from hospital corridors to metro stations. It supports wellbeing, aids orientation, and contributes to welcoming, memorable places for patients, staff, residents, commuters and visitors alike.
How Public Art Is Funded
Our artworks are made possible through the One Percent Rule, which recommends dedicating one percent of a building’s construction budget to artistic design. This principle has guided art commissioning in Sweden since 1937 in state‑funded projects and has been part of Region Stockholm’s planning since 1971.
Art Underground
Stockholm’s metro is often referred to as one of the world’s longest art exhibitions. The network features permanent artworks at 94 stations, plus 7 stations with rotating exhibitions that showcase new work by contemporary artists. (Region Stockholm)

New Stations Under Construction
Artists for the new Blue and Yellow line stations were selected through a competition in 2015 and have since collaborated closely with architects and engineers to ensure art is an integral part of the design. You can follow their creative process in short films.

Art in Healthcare Spaces
Art is a natural part of the healthcare experience and an important element of our shared cultural heritage. In clinics, health centres and hospitals across the region, patients, staff and visitors can enjoy more than 60,000 works of art — making this one of the largest public collections of modern and contemporary art in the country.
