Three Culture and Health grants awarded

Three grant recipients have been selected as part of the EU-funded project Culture and Health Platform. Wali Nazari, Rita Winde, and Ida-Johanna Lundqvist will each receive SEK 92,000.

The aim of the grant is to give individual artists or cultural practitioners the opportunity to develop new knowledge within the cross-sectoral field of culture and health, with a basis in their own artistic practices. The call for applications opened in April 2025 by Region Stockholm, in collaboration with Region Skåne and Region Uppsala.

Wali Nazari is awarded the grant for adapting rhythms from Cuban salsa to use in elderly care. Wali aims to find and test ways to tailor salsa movements for individuals with limited mobility or cognitive impairments, including exploring digital solutions and deepening knowledge in impact measurement.

Rita Winde is awarded the grant to develop painting workshops involving people with dementia, staff, and family members. She wants to explore how interactions between people change when artistic creation is introduced into a residential facility for individuals with cognitive impairments.

Ida-Johanna Lundqvist is awarded the grant to explore the role of art in palliative care. She will investigate how artistic and aesthetic activities can be integrated as support in palliative care, to enhance quality of life, presence, and coping with existential issues.

Wali Nazari and Rita Winde will carry out their planned activities in collaboration with elderly care services in the regions of Uppsala and Skåne. In the region of Stockholm, Ida-Johanna Lundqvist will partner with palliative care services.

A total of 35 applications were received, half of which came from the region of Stockholm. This was the first of four calls for applications during the project period, which runs until 2028.
